A friend has given me his laptop to take a look at, the problem is it has a power on password and a bios admin password both of which I or he doesn't know. Could I take it apart and remove the cmos battery just like a desktop to reset bios settings?

Any help greatly appreciated.

The laptop in question is a Compaq Presario c700

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

Your best help on this would be HP because they might know those passwords. It's far more likely though that your friend has acquired this from a source which protected it and HP or any other professional would require proof of ownership.

We can't hep with these issues here at Tom's - our Rules preclude that in case we inadvertently helped someone hack into another person's system.
