problem in hp laptop

my hp laptop shows light in ac plug but when i try to on,the light on power button flashes for split second and goes back but does not on my laptop...even witout battery the result is same.

Try taking the battery out, leave the ac cord unplugged, and hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
Then put the battery back on, plug the charger in, and try to turn it on.

Manham, About 2 months ago my Acer 776z-4088 had the same problem - battery adapter check out ok but won't charge the battery nor power the Notebook with the battery removed. Upon closer inspection I found that the center pin of the power jack was missing. Turns out that it was damaged on one of the job sites. Once I had the top & bottom covers off I could see the damaged power jack. I took about 20 minutes to get the board out and de-soldered the jack. I ordered the replacement jack and 5 days later - I soldered it in, re-assembled everything and she been working fine.
