I just moved into an apartment complex that comes with cable service. Their service is a rebroadcasted Directv. Much like you would have in a hotel. That being said, no cable box can be purchased or used. I have tried Tivo, digital converters, boxee, and directv boxes. Nothing works. Tivo because it requires a cablecard, digital converter doesnt pick up signal, boxee picks up weird decimal channels and half dont have sound, and directv box doesnt work because it is not real directv.

Perfect world, I could have a DVR. But I would settle to watch tv through my projector. My projector is hooked up to my receiver via HDMI. Somehow, I need to get tv signal to my receiver via HDMI.

Suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Since the system doesn't use any outboard boxes it must use the tuner inside the TV to change channels. This would be either NTSC (analog) or ATSC (digital) same as over the air TV. You can check with your super or a neighbor to see. There are many digital tuner DVR boxes.

I have tried both of those options. Tivo requires a cablecard and the converter doesnt pick up any channels during channel search. I am assuming a VCR would work, but avoiding that option if possible.
