Projector connected HDMI to pc. invalid format... shows up

Connected projector (led-86 cheap ~ £200) to my pc via hdmi
Worked well for a few days until I installed a game now when I start up my computer it works up until I sign in the projector shows up a message saying "invalid for..."
I'm assuming it's saying invalid format.
I was fiddling with the resolution before but now no matter which resolution I put it in I cannot get pc through projector.
Native resolution is 1280x768 1080p
Please help!

If the native resolution is 1280 x 720 then it is not 1080p but 720p. You may have to reset this using another monitor. Also try uninstalling the game.

Have already uninstalled game. Had no effect.
Regardless of what resolution my projector is I cannot get it to show my pc screen for more than a few seconds.
I have tried everything from 420 to 1080
Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Try a different HDMI cable (if your cable is long try a short one). You may be having what is called a "handshake problem". The order you turn things on also can affect this so make sure that the PC is fully booted before turning on the proj.
Changing to a different input and back can help.
