Question about laserdisc player...

Hi, I just bought a used pioneer cld-s104 player. It plays fine,
but there is a slight problem with it. The main tray only stays
open for five seconds, then automatically closes. The inner cd
tray stays open indefinitely. Does anyone know why this might
happen, or how to fix it? TIA

Does this happen using both the remote and pushing the button on the
machine?

I don't have the remote, so it only opens via the machine. I have
a universal remote, but it doesn't seem to eject via remote.

It's too bad you can't test it with a remote. Sometinms if you hit the
button twice, it will open and then close. I suspect the button is
sticking.

I used the codes found for the universal remote, and it simply will
not eject via remote control. Everything else works perfectly on
the player. Has anyone heard of anything like this before?

What does the display say. Does it stay on "OPEN" or clear after the drawer
is fully extended?

At some point, Pioneer switched their remote signals for "Stop" and
"Eject". Perhaps your universal remote is still using the "Stop" signal
for that button?

When I open the player, the display and screen both say "open", and
after five seconds it says "close" and the tray goes back into the
player.

Then the switch that tells the electronics that the drawer is fully extended
is not working. After timing out for the open cycle the electronics says
there is a problem so close the drawer. The little switch is up by the
gears that move the tray.

I was also thinking that perhaps the tray is slightly out of
alignment, and simply can't extend all the way. You could try to
gently pull on the tray a bit after it has stopped opening and see if
you can catch the switch to hold it open. If the drawer is binding,
the "push to close" mechanism may also be engaging. If you push on an
open tray, it will close automatically.

Hi! I think Kurtis is right. I have a DVL-909 and encountered the same
problem 6 months ago. My unit was built in 1997 and after the years the
lubricant dried out. If you open the unit when the tray is open (pull
the plug before it closes again), you can see a black toothed wheel
which controls the transport. There is a little switch which tells the
player that the tray is open. In my case, this switch did not snap
back to its the final position. You could fix it with a synthetic
lubricant, which is suitable for plastics. Better: give it to Pioneer
for service, they will clean the whole transport and replace all the
lubricant.
Hope this helps, Torsten.
