I just sold my PC and am currently looking to buy a laptop. I've been hearing good things about the Lenovo brand particularly the y500 line.
I wanted to ask a couple questions and hopefully have them answered so I can hurry on with my purchase (as I am currently without a PC).
I was thinking of buying the 750M SLI model on their website but was wondering if it was absolutely necessary for gaming. Obviously it would be more powerful but even with the 750 SLI, am I running things on max setting no problem? Will this sufficient for future game releases? Or is it not worth the extra money and better to just play on high settings with a single card because it isn't THAT much better?
Also I notice that an older model on Amazon goes for 900. Instead of the i7, it has an i5 and instead of 750M it has 650M. Is the $200 price jump worth the added power?
In the machine, there is a 16gb SSD which I probably want to replace with this. How difficult is it to place in and install a new OS on it without any external CD drive? One plus (or what I see as a plus) to the non SLI model is that there is a CD drive and no SSD which means I can just slip this new guy in and do a fresh install no problem.
Finally, if I were to get the single GPU model, is it better to get the 500 or 510 series? As far as I can tell, the only thing the 510 has over the 500 is that it is Haswell as opposed to Ivy Bridge right?
