Which is a really quiet laptop for under GBP 1,900 / EUR 2,300 / USD 3,000?
Must-haves: FireWire, strong graphic card; usage: office, multimedia, gaming (occasionally). Mainly used in office with high-end peripherals (display, keyboard etc.); consequently all features covered by these peripherals are non-essential: Display, size, sound, weight, battery life etc. A non-glare display would be appreciated (no deal breaker), maximum size about 18.4 inch.

Hello martin14;

Check out the Dell Precision M6600 Mobile Workstation at your local Dell online website.
For about $2280 you can get a Core i7-2720QM (2.20GHz) CPU and AMD FirePro M8900 Mobility Pro Graphics card (based on the same chip as the Radeon HD 6970M laptop gaming graphics card) and 17.3" 1920x1080 Anti-Glare LED with IPS LCD Premium Panel.
It does have a Firewire port which is missing from the majority of laptops these days.

thanks for the advice. However, we are still looking for a test report stating the noise level of that laptop. We love to listen to music without wearing headphones while sitting at our computer.

Unfortunately, most people we know do not use the DELL Precision M6600 as it is fairly new and large (most people prefer smaller notebooks; for us size does not matter, low noise is of the essence).
The new model is used by 3 people only, of which 2 are satisfied with the quietness (both are no music enthusiasts).
However, one is not satisfied at all with the noise of his DELL Precision. We checked its noise.
It seems to be louder than e.g. our VAIO F-series. As we want a very quiet high-end laptop we are still looking for a reliable test or at least a further reliable opinion. Thanks in advance for any helpful information.
