I would go back and make sure the connection from the laptop to the MB are properly seated, which sounds like the issue.
Oh the fun of working on laptops !!!

The ribbon connection is generally done with a pinch bar that has to slide and lock to make sure the connection is good (at least with the ones I"ve worked on). The ribbon cable must be fully seated into the connection and if the pinch bar has been seated properly, a light pull with your fingertip (just enough to tell if it's secure, which is not much at all) will tell you.

I will also suggest doing some internet searches for How to replace a keyboard on your specific model laptop. It may provide some picture and instructions that would be more product specific for you, sacuh as this one:
http://repair4laptop.org/disassembly_acer.html

And I will presume you made sure you receive the correct model keyboard (part numbers match the one being replaced).

its as you describe a "pinch bar that has to slide and lock to make sure the connection is good The ribbon seems to be fully seated into the connection and if the pinch bar has been seated properly I made a light pull with my fingertip it seems secure.

I have a fujitsu siemens Amilo 2515 I have been unable to find the exact instructions for how to replace a keyboard.

what i don't under is if i have enough of a connection for half the keyboard to work why isn't the other of the keys responding?

i bought the keyboard from the net it stated it was compatible for my model.

Well a defective KB happens from use and even from the factory (or someone sold you a bum KB, yea it sucks that people WILL do this).

Don't know if this is comarable to yours

l also found this for the replacement KB and DIY instructions, though from the video, looks much easier than some I have done on my old HP :)

http://www.amazon.com/Fujitsu-Siemens-Notebook-Keyboard-N01159-005/dp/B005CPHG5A

Do look at the part number on your original KB and use that to place your order. Don't settle for anything but an exact match.

The ribbon cable must be fully seated into the connection and if the pinch bar has been seated properly.
