This laptop is beautiful, and runs beyond my wildest dreams. But the CPU runs way too hot.
It hits around 85 celsius max in stress tests, but in video games it's a lot worse. I run this thing with a laptop cooler, and the CPU hit 100 Celsius during a match of Dota (the whole session lasted an hour). It's not even the heaviest game, but this is a recurring problem. Ever since I got the laptop (about a week ago), it regularly peaks at 90+ degrees on the CPU.
Maxing out the laptop fans manually while running the laptop cooler keeps it below 90, but just barely. If I lower the settings, the problem goes away, but I'm just alarmed at it running this hot. I understand thin form-factor Max-Q laptops have thermal issues, but I never knew it was this bad.
I might disable Intel Turbo Boost and snip a few other things, but I'd rather have the laptop working with all its features.

Should I be worried? What should I do?

EDIT: It also goes as high as 81 degrees while using Chrome

UPDATE: Played 2 games of Dota (a little over an hour in total), with the laptop fans running at 90%, along with the laptop cooler, and the CPU still touched 100 degrees Celsius.
This seems like a hardware fault to me, I've never seen laptops go this hot on medium tasks.

Also, it runs at 75 on idle, and above 80 with a single tab of Chrome open.

The problem is likely due to the fact that it has an 8th generation 6 core CPU that also has Hyper Threading which means it can process up to 12 threads of instructions at once. This is the 1st generation of laptops with 6 core CPUs so it is not really a surprise they run hot. More cores means the CPU has more transistors. More transistor consume more power which generates more heat.

If the CPU goes above 85c, then I would definitely be concerned... I prefer below 80c. 90c+ is definitely alarming especially if it is consistently like that. Personally, I would return that thing for a refund and perhaps look at an older Razer Blade 15 with a 7th gen quad core CPU.

Interesting. But at the same time, after looking up other people's experiences with this laptop, it seems to me that it's an actual hardware problem. I just updated the thread with a bit more info. This seems uncharacteristic. I will probably send it back, although whether its as a refund or just repair, I don't know yet.

It may be the thermal paste. A friend of mine suggested the same thing. I'm in contact with Razer support. The thing is, the CPU doesn't even seem to be overclocking itself unnecessarily either, as far as I can tell. So it might be either the thermal paste or some other hardware fault. I'll get it replaced or refunded.
