RCA flat screen tv, improving sound

No hdmi out, Rica cords out, no optical out. Only headphone jacks. When connecting speakers to tv with 3.5mm wire, I still get the sound from the tv. Hope can I get good sound from my tv?

U still have to go into TV menu and explicitly tell it to disable built-in speaker.
