First off, I believe I have taken care of the initial issue. My phones, tablets and computers (no matter what browser) were redirecting to other websites and giving pop ups to call support numbers and what not. I factory reset my Netgear router and so far the issue has been resolved. Tested several websites and haven't been "blocked" from clicking links, being redirect and having to click the link all over again.

This leads to my question(s). One thing that I have been reading and searching for lately is a antivirus bootdisc. I've seen several options available but not sure what would be the best one to go with. Some of them seem too good to be true and others seem like they may not actually do the job. Any particular one to go with?

Also, I am very skeptical with installing any kind of antivirus whether its free or paid for. It's been very rare that I get a virus and usually when I do i'm ready to do a clean install anyway. Are there any recommended virus scanners to run from a usb stick?

Spybot Search & Destroy and ClamWin Portable are great programs to run from a USB.

Consider Avast for your software of choice. It has a pre-boot scan option that's very useful.

The idea of running w/o AV, malware, protection to my mind is akin to being promiscuous w/o using condoms.

My SIL brought over her machine to clean out old programs and add a new HD so she could install new stuff, ... she was sure she didn't have any viruses..... she had over 1200 infections.

As to your request ...
