Recommendations for a good PC & 360 headset

I've been trawling through the internet for some time now looking for the perfect gaming headset that will work on both the pc I'm building and my xbox 360. However I've been looking for so long that I feel I've become a bit too obsessed with perfection for the budget I'm on. It's hard to just pick one and I'm finding easier and easier to find flaws. I think I'm going crazy.

The quality of the sound is the most important element, I play a lot of fps games and would love a headset that's great for them as well as movies and music. I also want them to be able to cancel noise from the outside. My budget is around £150 though if it was cheaper obviously I wouldn't complain.

I would love some recommendations based on personal experience, I've read too many from the professional industry (both reviewers and the manufacturers themselves) so a human touch would be just lovely. Thank you very much in advance.

finding a truly awesome multiplatform model is tough, since most are either wireless or usb variants. often you're better off going with a solid 3.5 analog stereo pair and getting the necessary adapter for xbox.

that's not to say the wireless models are bad - they're getting quite good now, just nowhere near as clear as a wired analog set of cans.

steelseries makes a good cross platform model. if you do want wireless astro and soundblasters headsets are some of the better options out there. the bass is pretty punchy and the simulated surround is actually decent. you've got to tweak it a bit but you can get good results in fps games where positional audio is needed. all are passive noise-isolation but do an ok job.

Beautiful man, thank you very much. I went out to get whichever one the nearest pcworld had in stock (I couldn't come to a decision so I just let fate decide) and it was the siberia. However i remember what you said about the necessary adapter for xbox and that's where I decided on the Tritton pro+ headset. It's pretty badass but the user instructions and manuals are barren and I still need to understand how to properly set it up, in hindsight maybe I should have just pulled a decision from a hat. All the same thanks again. This was a surprisingly hard decision.

Yeah it came with an adapter for my old xbox, which swung it for e. I have a usb ac adapter to power it and remove the low buzzing and it works fine, seems a bit off on the pc atm but I won't know for sure until I get the full internet installed and find some games and films to really give it a run out. I'll keep you posted when that day finally comes!
