It's best just take Brett's advice, remove the hard disk to ensure the personal data are protected and see if a local charity shop has a use for it. Failing that, most city or town authorities have facilities to make sure the metals are responsibly recycled.

As to that hard disk - know anyone who owns an angle grinder? Using one of those to cut it stops anyone stealing your bank details.
