Red / Green light on sidecar

I have just been playing with a 905 sidecar I bought 6 months
or more ago and have developed a new problem (it was sitting
unused in the closet for several months.)

The signal light (LED on left side of front panel) is now red
and never goes green. A DVMPEG receiver using the same dish
setup receives FTA Outdoor Channel just fine indicating to me
that the dish and Lnbf are working.

Can the red light be cured by a reset (master or otherwise) or
is it strictly an RF / digital stream indicator (meaning I have
a real problem)?

Thanks in advance for any information.

ie: tune the sidecar to G0-101 and the analog receiver to any G0 odd #
channel and if the sidecar is working ok you should get a green LED.

You didn't mention whether the sidecar,or the analog receiver is controlling
polarity(this is the way most of us have our systems set up...along with a
splitter on the dish line with 1 port going to the mpeg-2 fta rcvr)...

The light will not go green until you get a lock on a DigiCipher channel.
So the dish needs to be aimed at a satellite that has DCII digital channels
and the 905 must be tuned to the correct channel.

You have not mentioned which satellite you are trying to receive and
what type dish and LNBF you are using.

Maybe I should have explained this better.

The dish is successfully on G0 (FTA receiver connected to this
dish/lnbf receives Outdoor Channel just fine.)

From this I see that the dish and lnbf are working and are indeed
on G0.

The question is since I do not have a green light (it is red)
and I have good signal into the 905, is there a problem that
reseting the 905 can cure, or does it have a more serious problem?

I don't want to reset if not necessary since I only use this for
"free" channels--it was used for pay channels and has been
"authorized" but I have not used it for months and am not interested
in subscribing to further programming at the present.

Thanks again,

phil

For testing purposes only try connecting the LNB cable directly
to the 905 and remove the DVB receiver from the equation. Also
verify that the 905 is configured to use LNBF(s) since you say you
are using an LNBF instead of an LNB.

If you are receiving the Outdoor Channel and you are using the same
dish and LNB that was being used when the 905 was up and running
the 905 should still work. If not the dish position may need to be peaked.

If you are receiving the Outdoor Channel G0 120-127 on the 905 are
at the same polarity and should give a digital lock even if you are not
subscribed.

This seems to be more complicated than it needs to be.

I did all these things. The cable is directly connected
to the 905 when I was troubleshooting the problem. I use
an Aspen C/Ku lnbf (same as before when the problem did not exist)
and connect the DVMPEG directly to the dish/lnbf when verifying
the operation of the dish/lnbf. Either receiver can control the
polarity of the lnbf when directly connected. (Actually, I tried
the lnb(f) out of the DVMPEG receiver too with the same results.)

I really have gotten past the point of basic troubleshooting and
only the reset issue remains. The question remaining is, is there
any problem in the firmware, etc. that can cause the red light to
come on even with a valid input signal and can this problem be
fixed by any flavor of reset.

Think I'll just try the master reset and hope like heck it works...

My 905 did not get a green light until I called my program provider and had
it initialized by them. Then, while still talking to them on the phone. the
light went green. Until it gets a hit grom G0, it will not receive
anything.

What channel is the 905 on? For example,G0-101 is NOT the same polarity as
G0-24(ie: because I have my analog rcvr controlling polarity[and I use an
lnb\polarizer motor],I must first set the analog rcvr to any odd #
channel, then set the sidecar to G0-101,but on some other G0 channels,I must
change the analog rcvr to any even numbered channel.)....

What do you mean by "FTA receiver?"Normally,if you say that people might
think you mean "mpeg-2 fta rcvr," "c\ku analog rcvr" might be a better
term,if that's what you referring to.

As suggested check to make sure you have set the 905's installation menu
items for :

c\ku lnbf (what about the odd #d channels on your "fta receive?")

90 deg. polarization

The red/green light indicates signal regardless of the receiver's
authorisation status.

Not on the original factory new units. It had to get a software update
after the very first hit.

Like I said, my 905 had no green lights at all untill it was authorized by
my provider.

The OP's unit may be from the same batch of 905s.

A green light is the indicator for a digital lock. With no digital lock
the unit cannot receive hits or receive a firmware upgrade. So what
you are describing is not possible.

Well, it has happened before to new 905's, as well as mine. I am stating a
fact that happened on my 905, and confirmed by my provider.

In that case your provider is wrong. No digital lock -- No authorization
or no firmware can be downloaded to the unit.

I have been using the 905 since before they began shipping to the public. I was
one of the field testers for the original units. There is nothing in any version of
the
firmware to prevented a digital lock.

There is always a possibility that they sent you do one of the hidden menus and had
you do a Master Reset or reset the authorization status, but no matter what you
believe or what they said if the unit did not have a digital lock there is no way that
the firmware was upgraded or that the unit received an authorization hit.

With my provider the first thing they asked me when I first fired up my 905
was "do you have a digital lock,or a green LED?"

If you don't have it,the programmer can't send any hits to your unit.
