Hi! I'm looking for a somewhat alternative to a laptop. Since I don't have a tablet. I'm looking at a refurbished surface pro 1 for $219.99. I think it's good enough of a deal since it's a surface pro. But I'd like to get a second opinion.

I do have a laptop in case i really needed to work on one. Just for a somewhat more portable but capable device.

Also, an alternative that I'm looking into is the lenovo miix 300. But it only has 1280x800 as resolution. Compared to the surface pro 1 of full hd.

I would like to use a surface pro to easily bring into class for notes, powerpoint and other stuffs. Thanks!

Oh sweet, you can get the pen with surface 2? I'd get the surface 2 any day over the surface. The 2nd gen model is going to have a much better CPU, longer battery life (the main achilles heel on the surface 1) and I think windows 8.1 already installed which = free upgrade to windows 10

Well, it turns out getting the $220 surface one only comes with 30 day replacement from newegg. I found another but it's surface pro 2 for $380 but it has 90 day replacement from microcenter. Now i dont know if this one is a better deal or not.

You're right. I found surface pro 2 refurbished from vendors on amazon for $340-350. They come with 30day return and 90day warranty for repair.

So it boils down to

$220 newegg surface pro 1 w/o pen

$350 amazon surface pro 2 w/ pen

Yeah i was able to have the pen included. But is it a good deal for $350?

I think it is. The only other tablet's you'll find in that price range that run full windows are the small and slow atom tablets. Where as the surface 2 has a core i5 which will make it way way faster than any of the new tablets today (in that price range).

I actually browsed through them. But i really need something kinda have beef to run photoshop. And also surface pro has 4gb of ram. Do they all perform the same on onenote? (Surface pro 2 vs other same priced tablets)

OneNote isn't all that demanding. Unless there's a feature I don't know of.

Photoshop should be fine with the surface 2. However if your wanting to run huge pictures with tons of layers at good speed, then the surface 2 is a bit underpowered. CPU horsepower is a bit low for that and 4GB of RAM will bottleneck easily.

But if it's just casual photoshop stuff like 5 layers max and a single or couple ultra hd photos, your fine.
