Replacing a receiver with a sound card

I'm currently building a home theatre pc, I want to get rid of my receiver and replace it with a sound card. Will I still get decent performance from the components?

For HT unless your soundcard has an extremely high quality DAC chip and we are strictly talking 2 channel audio, it's actually a step backwards when we are talking DTS-HD/Dolby True HD and surround with a HDMI AVR? In short pass HDMI out of your HTPC to a HDMI AVR
