So i'm looking at replacing my DC jack on my laptop and seem to have found the a replacement. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Samsung-NP350V5C-A06UK-Dc-Jack-Power-Socket-Port-Connector-CABLE-Harness-/271838056771?hash=item3f4acf9143
However all the videos i have looked at that replace it de solder the jack and put a new one on. However, the replacement that i found has some sort of cable on it, was wondering what that was for?

First time working on a laptop, would it be worth replacing the thermal paste while i'm at it, laptops about 3 years old
Just needs to last me until the end of the year until I replace it with an XPS 15 for Uni

Thanks

Hi, the best way to know, is to open the laptop and look at the design of the DC jack. If you need a jack soldered directly on the motherboard, I found this one .
