1. What is your budget?

Trying to be as affordable as possible. (which means my budget for this type of item is under 500-600 dollars)

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?

I'm not sure.

3. What screen resolution do you want?

I tend to go with the highest resolution that the laptop can use. I like being able to have different applications open on the same screen. IE two Excel applications open.

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?

I would get a desktop if I had the room. My laptop will replace my current laptop that I bought in late 2000's.

i current have a Toshiba Satellite 17.3" L555-S7001 Laptop PC with Intel Pentium T4400 Processor & Windows 7 Home Premium and it is on its last legs.

5. How much battery life do you need?

Honestly, I keep my laptop plugged up majority of the time and rarely take it out of my house.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?

In the past I did play games like FFXIV - a Realm Reborn and FFIX on my laptop and they ran poorly on Low. I do not foresee me playing many games on the laptop.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)

I do a lot of office and excel work. I can have many tabs open in Firefox as I'm doing research and editing PDF files. When I get bored I can find myself opening up file editing software and editing executable files. I can have a LOT of tabs open doing research.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?

I currently have 300 gigs and that seemed to finally fill up. I'm pretty open to the hard drive capacity.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.

none so far, I've looked at Walmart's website.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?

I've had my current laptop since 2008. So I keep these things until they die.

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?

I haven't used the optical drive in years.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.

13. What country do you live in?

United States

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.

I recently purchased a ps4 and watch netflix and hulu on that entertainment unit.

I would probably use my laptop to watch movies if my main TV was being used for something else.

I run a lot of applications like office and various software at the same time and i know my current laptop locks up and slows down. I haven't played game on this laptop in a long time; however, playing games like FFXI on the laptop is not out of the question.

I'm not sure what type of laptop would be suitable for me. I tend to go for flashy, but this laptop has done me well for the almost 6 of having it. I think I bought it in 20010? maybe.

Thanks for the help

You didn't mention a budget, so I don't know if you'll be interested in this one or not. It's a little flashy, but has the Intel I7 6700 HQ and an SSD and large HDD for productivity and with the 16 GB's of RAM, should last you many years. If your interested, you could configure your own at Sager. If you can find a laptop cheaper with the i7 6700HQ and no discrete graphics card, it might be a little cheaper. The HD 530 on board graphics are good enough for light gaming if you ever chose to do so.

Thanks for the reply.

I was vague as my budget is limited so I put as "affordable as possible" which in salesman terms.... "cheap!" lol

I'm starting to notice that I really only use my laptop for office type stuff and surfing the web and research. I "may" try to install a game on it from time to time but I never find myself getting into it.

FFXI is probably the only game I would put on this and my current laptop is very old and runs it just fine. so I'm thinking that game doesn't take much to run.

I recommend the following Acer Aspire E5 laptop for $500. It has:

- Core i5-5200u CPU
- 8GB RAM
- 1TB HDD
- nVidia 940m
- 1080p screen

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834315131&cm_re=acer_940m-_-34-315-131-_-Product

The nVidia 940m is more power than all integrated graphics core with the exception of the Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200. But that integrated graphics solution is only available in expensive laptops using specific quad core Intel Core i7 CPUs. The nVidia is not really powerful enough to play games at 1080p; only 1366x768 or 1600x900 with low or a mix of low & medium graphic settings depending on the game.
