Replacing tele tuner with HDMI dongle

The tuner of my television no longer works but the HDMI input works perfectly. Can I bring the television back into service by plugging an HDMI tuner into it? If it comes with a remote will it control the dongle which will be behind the television? Thanks.

If you plug an ATSC HD tuner into the HDMI input it will work fine. If you hide the tuner you will need an IR extension kit to operate it via remote.
