Replay 3000-series - Bad Modem?

I have a ReplayTV 3000 series box.

It's worked great for the past few years, but as of a few days ago,
when I tell it to connect (243-Zones) it will dial in, and then it
will hang at "Connection Established."

My other ReplayTV 3000-series *immediately* gets past this point and
starts downloading files; both share the same phone line, so I know
the phone line is good.

If I don't disconnect by physically disconnecting the phone line or
powering off the Replay, my line will stay in-use / busy.

I suspect my modem has died. Does anyone else have any ideas?

I suggest either a warm (power button held for 10 seconds) or cold boot
(pull power cord out for 20 minutes).

Bye.

The next step is to make contact with Mikeyboy at his web site
http://www.replaytvparts.com/ . He can help you get your old ReplayTV back
on the air. Mike's a good guy who's helped a lot of us ReplayTV owners.

Bye.

Are they both set to dial the same phone number? There could be a
problem with one of the numbers.

A dead modem would have trouble connecting.

Looks like a for-charge website, so before I go to him, does anyone

Does anyone have any other technical suggestions to fix this, rather
than paying someone? The prices on the website are high ($145 for a
$40-$60 120GB hard drive, for example), so I'd rather do a bit of work
first to see if there's anything I can do to fix the issue before
calling in the big guns.

Suggest you try this suggestion from Bruce. I was having a
similar problem. I called Replay Tech Support. I was
directed through the procedure of slowing Modem speed to
28,000 and no more problems.

Hope that is your problem as it is an easy fix. :)

as per the leavens family replaytv faq website...

Subject: My modem connects, but the connection seems bad?
Answer: Listening from a phone, if you can hear the modem dialing out
and trying to make a connection, but the connection fails, you might
need to throttle down the modem from 56k to 33.6k or lower.

Go to the Menu, Setup, the Network and Input Settings screen, and
re-setup the modem connection. When you get to the dialing prefixes
screen, hit the Zones button on the remote. This will bring up an
option that lets you manually set the modem speed. Try 33.6 and see if
that doesn't work better for you. If not, try it even lower. It may be
slow, but it's better than nothing!
