Easiest thing is to forget the test and hook the Replay up via network
to a broadband connection if you have one. Else, link via your computer
and use it's modem. You can program the compuer to dial out five
minutes before the Replay needs the link and hand up an hour later

We are trying the suggestion made by "John in Detroit" and I would like to
know exactly how to connect the Replay TV box to the computer's modem.
Thanks again for any help.

.... and listen on the phone to track the progress of the connect. You should
hear it dial, answer, low beep, higher pitched beep then a series of handshake
signals as it negotiates a speed and a hash sound. You are connected.

The easiest way is via a router, however if you do not have a router you
can use a yellow cable from Belkin to hook the REPLAY to the computer's
LAN connector (That is called a crossover cable by the way, Belkin makes
straight through cables in many colors, Yellow is not one of them, cross
over cables are Yellow if made by Belkin, I can not speak to other
companies as I only read the Belkin fact sheet)

Then you need to "Bridge" the lan port to the TCP/IP port for the modem
(Do that in network connections) and finally you have it done.

Note, I have never tried this and do not know the details of how. I have
set up MAC bridges but always lan-port to lan-port never lan to modem

It's not just easier. It's better too.

Yes, use a crossover cable. One thing people nearly always leave out
is you can check the connection LEDs at both ends to see if you have a
good physical connection. The connection LED on the Replay is on the
back next to the RJ45 connector.
