would this work with more than one person in the room? my husband sleeps like a corpse but i'm a light sleeper and really need to get my sleep in check. he on the other hand has on numerous times slept through the smoke detector in our room going off.

Hi Angel. Yes the S+ does work with more than one person in the room. According to their FAQ (https/sleep.mysplus.com/help.html) the S+ will only pick up the breathing of the person closest to the unit.

Does it matter whether you are facing the device or not? If you turn on your side away from the sensor does it still pick up your briefing?

Also, if I purchase it in the US will it work overseas?

You can sleep on the side. It works overseas when bought in the US. You just need to get a plug that fits the electric outlet. Anyone cable with mini USB will do.
