I just got my new 9900 yesterday to replace my LG 4400 which is a great
phone. I was waiting for the LG 7000 to drop in price or until my new every
two kicked in so that I could save $100. But then this phone came along at
a great price, and it's trimode (not sure if that's important any more), has
a higher res. display, and a speakerphone to boot. Plus the ~claimed~
battery life is phenomenal. I paid full retail as to not mess up the new
every two so that I could upgrade again at any time rather than having to
wait another 2 years.
Anyway, I have had Audiovox phones in the past (the Toshiba ones), and
thought that they were great, so I had no hesitation in buying this one. So
far so good. Reception is slightly better than the LG 4400 which in my
opinion was above average. Sound quality on both ends is very good too,
again like the 4400. The display is second to none - WOW! describes it
well. I don't really care about the camera, but it works - I took a picture
and made it the background so that was simple enough. The speakerphone is
good enough to check voicemail, *1 for traffic, etc., but in the car
probably won't be a good way to use the phone. Though you could use the
speakerphone while at home. It comes with a bunch of ringers, and while
unimpressive, are better than the ones in the LG 4400. I did figure out
that you can record "voice notes", and make them ringers. So you can record
yourself saying "the phone is ringing", or the radio, or a CD, and assign
the recording as a ringer.
I haven't fully assessed the battery life yet, but it does seem at least as
good as the LG 4400 which was OK for standby time. I find it difficult to
believe that it will actually last 360 hours or whatever it is that they
claim. In a 24 hour period, it went from a full 3 bars down to 1 bar with
about an hour of talking, plus probably an hour at least of screwing around
with the camera, adding numbers to the phonebook, checking out the menus
etc.
There are a couple of features/characteristics of the LG 4400 which I miss.
No "auto volume" which is one of the nicest features. Also, when you hit a
speed dial number, you can't tell who it is you are about to call until you
press the send key. On the LG, if you press "4", the speed dial associated
with 4 appears on the screen so that you can decide whether or not to press
send.
