Routing xbox audio through tv & laptop to headset

I want to use my headset with my xbox 360, but it's a usb headset, so just plugging it in isn't going to work.

My plan is to connect the 360 to a tv, connect tv to my laptop via a double-male 3.5mm jack in the tv's headphone jack, & plug the headset into the laptop.

Would this work? And if it did, I assume the audio quality would be reduced & not 7.1 surround?

My headset is a Corsair Vengeance 1500, if that's any use.

Does your laptop have a 3.5mm audio input? If it doesn't,then it won't work at all. Even if it,audio quality will be degraded as the 5.1 signal will be downmixed to stereo by the tv.No way you can transfer multichannel on a single 3.5mm audio cable.
