Stupid stupid me. I can't belive that I actually did this but here goes. I installed roxio ez cd 5 on my comp. My dvd drive disappeared in my comp so I went to the site and downloaded a patch so it would work with xp. I was downloading something so I had to wait a while before I could reboot but when I did the dvd drive was still missing in my comp. I uninstalled the program but I still can't see the dvd. I can't play any games or do anything with the drive because when I put the disc in I get a msg " no supported drive installed". Any ideas where I can look for the little bit of s@##$t droppings that roxio left behind. Thx

Update; I found the driver and deleted that. I uninstalled my drive in device manager and did a scan for hardware changes. It picked up my drive but while it was installing it just stopped for some reason. This is perplexing but I haven't given up yet.

Had the same problem a while back. I think it was adaptec easy cd creator deluxe or something like that. I installed it on a w2k machine, and puff, all my atapi devices vanished. After several days with a load of different attempts my drives were still gone.

The only solution I found was to reinstall the OS.... sorry.

Yeah, I'm coming to that conclusion too. I uninstalled the nforce drivers and went back to the old 2.45's but to no avail. What's that sig I've seen around here? fdisk, reinstall da doo doo da or some such thing. I'm kinda bummed too because I gave it my all to track this thing down. Can't tell you how many times I've done this before.

With Roxio 5, it's important to download the updates and apply them BEFORE you reboot the computer. I can't remember where I heard this, but I know it saved my bacon with Win 2000... and with Win XP.

I wish I knew that before I installed the software. I found the entry in the registry that messed up my dvd drive and now everything is good again. I'll stick with Nero from now on. Thanks.

I love Roxio 6.

Nero is good too... I have both.
