AMD cannot fire Ruiz, as the company is not in the position to pay for the executive’s golden parachute.

Wow! That's the ideal job. Mess up big enough, the company can't afford to pay you to go away, you get to keep the job and mess up some more, and the company becomes even less able to pay the parachute, etc.

That being said, I don't think Mr. Ruiz is really responsible for all of AMD's problems. Certainly Citigroup and the rest deserve some of the blame too. It's not like AMD alone started a bear market. This was a team effort.

"It's not like AMD alone started a bear market."

Ummm... AMD has lost money 7 quarters in a row... exactly when did this bear market start? What's the excuse for the other 5 quarters? If the CEO is not responsible then who is? Enough of this passing the buck garbage! Who signed off on the ATI acquisition? Who started the market share at all cost strategy (which lead to a crash in AMD's ASP's?) The CEO gets paid big money, and often gets the applause (fairly or not) when things are going well, so when things go bad, well you own it - hence the big salaries.

And the board of directors should be put in jail for their irresponsibility as they have sat idly by and have done nothing but collect money from AMD and just nod their heads. Of course this can't be done but they should be forced to right a personal letter of apology to each stockholder explaining where people's money went while they sat idly by and did nothing to 'oversee' the company.

if they would have valued ATI properly then they would be sitting so pretty right now. but no they overvalued, overpaid, and are now swimming in penalties in a quarter when the profits should be flowing in during an excellent product restructuring with the Radeon cards and excellent 7XX chipsets. they will be paying penalties throughout Q4 now.

Don't worry, Ruiz will pull AMD from the burning wreckage with his bare hands and return them to their glorious profitability once again - even if that requires firing every AMD employee in the process.
