So, I'm a complete noob at all this computer stuff. For my birthday, I bought a Compaq Presario CQ50-215NR for $400 bucks- at that time, I thought it was a great deal. And I suppose it was, until I realized that it is seriously, seriously not cut out for, well, ANY kind of gaming except for those cheap Korean cash-shop games.

Now, I want to buy one, and I've been looking at two Sager notebooks through xoticpc.com:
The Sager NP5797 and the Sager NP9280.
My budget is around $2,500, and the question I want to ask is this: which laptop would be the best for medium-to-hardcore gaming (Ranging from WoW to Fallout to Crysis)- with medium to high settings?
And also, another question: Is the NP9280's Intel Core i7 Quad (Nehalem) 920 2.66GHz better than the NP5797's Intel® T9800 45nm "Montevina" Core™2 Duo 2.93GHz for gaming?

Specs:
For the NP9280,
Core: Intel Core i7 Quad (Nehalem) 920 2.66GHz
Video Card: nVidia GeForce GTX 280M 1,024MB PCI-Express DDR3 DX10
RAM: 6,144MB DDR3 1066MHz Memory (3 SODIMMS)
Hard Drive: 320GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache) (No secondary+ drives or RAID)

For the NP5797,
Core: Intel® T9800 45nm "Montevina" Core™2 Duo 2.93GHz
Video Card: nVidia GeForce GTX 280M 1,024MB PCI-Express DDR3 DX10 OR nVidia Quadro FX2700M 512MB PCI-Express DDR3 DX10 (Depending on which is better)
RAM: 4,096MB DDR3 1066MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 SODIMMS)
Intel Turbo Memory: 4GB Intel® Robson Turbo Memory II
Hard Drive: 320GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache)

Your answers would be greatly appreciated.

The higher clocked dual will beat the quad - but only for now. As games become more parallel, the effect of clockspeed will be trumped by number of cores. It's a gamble, though, to say when that will occur.

However, you really won't be able to tell the difference between these two. Even though the dual is higher clocked, it's still a mobile CPU, and, clock for clock, will be slower than the i7, as it's a desktop chip, not to mention a superior technology.

The question you should be asking is more along these lines:
Do you want a hulk of a notebook (9280) or do you want a notebook that's somewhat portable (5797)?
