ok, so I can't seem to make up my mind when it comes to these laptops... here in about 2 months or so I will have around $2200 to spend. Things I would like to know, how good is the Core i7 920 on the NP9280 and why is it so good and how much better if better at all is it compared to the Core 2 duo or quad (only the Q9000.)

how much more will I be getting out of having dual Nvidia 280m's vs. having a single 280m. How much better is the 280m vs. the 260m? Or would it just be more worth it to get the dual ati 3870's in the alienware m17?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

dual 280s>dual 3870s>single 280> single 260.

The i7 is the more powerful CPU, but it's a desktop chip, so it will severely impact battery life.

Need more info. What are you going to be using the notebook for?

I will be using the Laptop for gaming, I will be using it for college as well but I'm not so worried about battery life. Thinking from a gaming point of view would the i7 be worth dropping the dual 280's and just getting a single? Or better yet, is shelling out that extra $300+ worth getting the dual 280's vs getting a single?

If I was you I would look at the new M17x. Notebookreview has alot of info about it. 3 gpus. One intergraded for battery life and 260gt or 280gt.

In this case the dual GTX280s would take priority over the i7. The majority of games need more graphical horsepower than CPU.
