samsung Blu ray and roku tv connectivity issue

I have 45inch TCL Roku tv. I connected my samsung blu ray player, I selected the DVD icon from the menu screen and it says that there's no system found. so i turned off the blu ray and turned it back, the Samsung logo appeared for a secind then it gives me the same message about no dvd player being connected
the hdmi cable is in the hdmi port
