My device was plugged into the charger and I was reading an email, when the screen went blank and then seemed to go into a startup sequence.

I have researched this as thoroughly as possible and tried all the fixes suggested, but I still have the problem. So far I have:

Removed the SD card during a boot cycle and then replaced it.

Let the battery run down, fully recharged it and tried to boot up, but it went back into the loop.

It is not possible to boot into safe mode or do a hard reset as both need the tablet to be switched off and that is not possible.

Apart from shopping for a replacement, is there anything else I can try please?

Getting the tablet to turn off is totally possible. :) Just let the battery run out (or take it out, as long as not under warranty). Yes I know taking it out is not simple, but it can be done.

Once you have removed and replaced the battery, or let it run totally out of power, then you can try booting up in "Safe Mode" to see if it will do so. If it does and works fine (granted your access will be restricted as it is "Safe Mode") then you know there is something on the device, virus, malware, bad app, etc., that you need to remove. If it still gives you trouble in "Safe Mode" then it is probably a hardware problem.

To get into "Safe Mode" please do the following.

1. First turn off the tablet.

2. Next press and hold "Power" until you see the manufacturers logo on the screen, then release the power button.

3. "Quickly" press "Volume Down" and hold it for few seconds until you see the message "Safe mode: ON" or something similar.

4. If you wanted disable it, simply repeat the steps above, and you should see "Safe Mode: OFF" rather than on.

Thanks for this and all your previous, very informative posts on this forum. My situation has been ongoing for several days now. I am constantly discharging the battery to simulate switching the device off and then recharging. I manage 3 to 4 complete discharge/recharge cycles per day. Each time it has recharged I have tried to either switch on normally, use your instructions to either boot in Safe Mode or factory reset, or try other combinations of the power and volume controls.

With one exception, the results are the same and I go back into the loop. The exception is that, with the power + volume down, I do get the option to load a different OS. Obviously, I cancel this and back into the loop we go.

I am not able to uncover any other fix, so when I am in town next week, I will pop into our Samsung specialist with it. Meanwhile, it is probably time to think about a replacement.

Any other possible solutions to the problem will be gratefully considered.

I, likewise, have the very same issue. Don't see a safe mode; it goes to downloading a new OS and stays until I let the battery wear down again.
tried to plug into my computer, but the computer doesn't seem to recognize a device is plugged in. Help!!

I took mine into a Samsung repair centre and the bad news was that the condition is terminal and needed a new board to bring it back to life. I weighed up the cost of the new board against the use that I'd had from the tablet and the cost of a new tablet, and committed my 10.1 to the recycling bin.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.
