Many Galaxy S25 Ultra and Plus users are having trouble with full-speed wired charging, but there are possible solutions.
Samsung Galaxy S25 users are facing charging issues — what you need to know : Read more
I am in the thick of this problem - just got an S25+ early last week. Coming from a OP8T where charging was a huge factor. The ability to just plug it in when you are 5-10% and have to leave [the car isn't that fast], then come back a few minutes later and be in the 25%+ range is something that always been a positive experience for me [read not taken for granted and comes with a smile].
I bought the S25+ knowing that the wired speed wasn't going to be close to the OP series (now OP13 or 13R) but was willing to accept that especially if I could have it sitting in a wireless charger and not worry about hitting 100% now that most phones support max 80% charge.
I went and bought specifically the Samsung 45W PD3.0 5A charger and witnessed from minute one two issues:
- When I plugged the charger in while on, the screen goes into AOD and you the % at the bottom. However the phone kept waking up and showing the larger graphic % at the bottom. That was odd. I didn't record the total time to charge but when it shows 23% and 28m to a full charge [is that to 80% or 100%?] and I am staring at the % and it isn't moving, I felt the 27m was a lie. 30m later - it was around 45-50% and still going. Not pleased.
- Per GSM Arena they say the spec time is when off, 0-75% in 30m. [I found no specs from Samsung]. The charging was abysmal. I was getting 38% charge in 32m and 77% in 1h8m. Horrible and a total non-starter for me.
Not to give up just yet [mainly because I am a masochist who loves Samsung's big brother approach - see ** below], I decided to revert to the OP 65W charger that is 2.0 compliant - one test so far:
- 30% in ~11m, 50% in ~22m, and 64% in ~30m. Not the 0-75% in 30m per GSM but as a first test acceptable over the SS 45W charger. (Note a non-off/non-zero % OP8T circa 2020 - 18m to go 63%)
So this news piece is good at least for me - I am not alone. Jury out still on another fact - that it appears that the phone is warm when at 80% and stopped charging - but will review that. I am going to compare that to OP.
I was "this close" to going for the OP13 but then found out last minute they are back to blasted curved [difficult to impossible to protect] screens. The alternative (albeit a bit slower charger than the OP8T) is the flat screen OP13R - which is a slightly slower phone than the OP13 but probably adequate since it is faster than the OP8T and but for a concern that came up, otherwise is still a very fast phone. The only negative is that the 13R doesn't support wireless and with the 80% max - to me a phone should have that feature in 2025.
**You pay this much for a phone and Samsung has the absolute audacity to prevent you from adding your own notification sounds [read no "+"] and must rely on a 3rd party product like Zedge to do that. Unreal. Just smacks of big brother. I cannot believe people put up with this. I haven't see this since ... my last Samsung - an S3! [it has been so long, that I forgot how much they love their customers]
