This is a 2015 model of Samsung notebook 9 (purchased new 2016 Nov). Problem occurs only in battery mode not when connected. Screen will show static, go black, and then computer shuts down. Comes back on when I reboot, and will function fine for a while until problem repeats.

Solution
Try this...

While the computer is connected to the charger cord...

1. Right click on the desktop and then choose "Properties".
2. Now go to "Settings", then "Advanced" and finally "Monitor".

NOTE: This may be found in a different area/different names on your computer. However, you still want to go into the "Monitor Settings", no matter how you get there.

3. Set the screen refresh rate to 50 hertz.

4. After you apply these settings, the problem should be fixed.

Also, if you are unsure of setting it to 50 hertz, check what your system is set to when you are running/connected to the battery only.

When running on battery the refresh rate is usually 50 hertz, and when on the charger cord power it will often be on 60 hertz. Hence the...

When running on battery the refresh rate is usually 50 hertz, and when on the charger cord power it will often be on 60 hertz. Hence the flickering. Making them both the same (50) should do the trick.

Thanks. But my display allows only 60 hertz, and is the same for both modes. Also, I realize I was not clear in my posting, and have revised it now. It's not just the display going blank but the system itself shuts down.

That's right. Only on battery mode, not when connected to charger.

You might want to try checking the settings in "Control Panel", "Power Options", "Change plan settings" and then "Change advanced power settings. Check all the different options listed, as it could be one or more of them that is having an effect. Once you have made all your changes then click "Apply" and then "OK".
