I understand the desire to increase resolution, but 1080p looks really good on a big screen. I don't know how much better a 4K screen will look. At some point, people stop noticing any difference.

As an example, most movie theaters with digital projection are using 2K resolution (2048×1152) which is only slightly more than 1080p (see "digital cinema" on Wikipedia for details).

Bottom line: at 1080p, we're already blurring the line between movie theater and home theater quality.
