Screen goes blank and then reappears

Have suddenly run into a strange problem on my laptop. Had the desktop open while talkin to a friend and it suddenly went black then reappeared less than a second later. All the icons had lost their images and were replaced with either white pages or folder icons. A couple of seconds later it flashed black again and then reappeared with the normal icons in place. Has happened a couple of times now.

Anyone have any ideas what is happening?

Was the laptop on idle when it happened? Try some of these troubleshooting steps that might help:

- Update graphics card driver. Download and install the latest driver you'll find from the manufacturer of the graphics card.

- Check the Power Option. See if all the power option settings are correct.
