I thought Eye-Fi was going to sue their ass off. Eye-Fi thinks they own that technology (I don't know if they really do or not).

I see a very useful application for field photography (I am planning on doing so): take a picture, check it out on big IPS tablet screen on the fly and make adjustments in the camera. There would be no need to take out the card and transfer pictures from card to tablet. Camera screens are too small to really understand if colors, contrast and so on are good or not. Newest tablet screens are really decent in this respect. Of course this would work only when you really need great looking pictures and have time to do it.

Is this a way to bypass Apple's anti USB port/ Anti SD Card Reader/ Anti Mount my disk drive for direct file transfers to the Iphone/Ipod/Ipad? if it is a way around it, then I am supporting it.

Together with a tablet or laptop I'd see use in photography to instantly review an important photo one could not easily retake. Prob. more efficient (and easier on the hardware) than removing and re-inserting a flash card again and again.

Is there any word on the distance covered ?

Im very curious to know whether these cards need a host device for just power or power and processing, it its just power you could technically just wire it up to a AA battery and have a carry around wireless file server. I must say I am a fan of that possibility.

[citation][nom]southernshark[/nom]I'd rather my pictures not broadcast themselves out into the spectrum. I'd rather just pull the card out and insert it into my laptop.[/citation]
What you work for the CIA, or are your pictures the very naughty kind?
I am sure the signal is encrypted and there isn't going to be a whole crowd of people hanging around my house looking to hack it just to see my holiday snaps and pictures of my pets. If they are that sad, then I'll post them on FB and they can friend me.
Me, I'm certainly going to get this to save the hassle of pulling card out or finding the cable. Don't forget each time you make a physical connection you run the risk of wear and tear or physical damage.

For every encryption, there is typically a method of cracking that encryption. Your wear and tear argument makes sense, however, what stops this sd card from malfunctioning on the wifi aspect? Integration is great, but not always. I would prefer some sort of usb adapter that takes SD cards and does the same thing. Because at least with that, if the wifi adapter dies your just replacing that instead.

I agree WiFi can be hacked but then all the computers in my house are running through the single WiFi router anyway. It's a question of risk, and I know I have far more valuable information running on my home network - signing on for online banking etc, than some pictures I took on the off chance that it is intercepted at the time that I initiate a synch to my computer, which I am assuming would nominally be off so as to not drain your camera battery.
I don't know about you but my DSLR cost me an arm and a leg and the less chance of breaking it the better. As long as these things aren't crazy expensive I would sooner replace this card than my camera.

"The market for a Wi-Fi enabled SD card may not be quite so limited. Installed in a tablet or smartphone, users with additional Wi-Fi capable devices -- whether it's a smartphone, tablet, notebook or desktop) may be able to simply connect directly to the card and retrieve its contents without an installed app like AirDroid or WiFi File Explorer Pro. "

configuring any of those apps is easier then setting up an SD wifi card. that is NOT what these cards target for. Also please tell me what smartphones have a full size SD slot.
