Sennheiser HD 598 everyday use?

I've been looking at getting the HD 598s since the pair of Bose OE2 headpphones I previously owned doesn't work anymore.

Are the 598s okay to be used as everyday, transportable headphones or are they meant to be kept inside by my computer and not subjected to carrying around?

If the 598s are better suited as stationary headphones, could anyone recommend a pair of transportable headphones in a similar quality (and preferably price) range?

The HD series of headphones (I have 3 sets) do not exclude as much outside noise as some people want. They are open back design so ambient sound is more noticeable. I don't find that bad, but some people wouldn't like it.
