serious boot issue

To make a long story short a friend of mine who has a Toshiba satellite laptop C50D fell for one of the Microsoft scams, let them into his computer then when he caught on, it was too late. His computer started acting weird and only reached out once he got to the stage it could no longer boot. When trying to boot it says Hdd not found. Anyhow he had a recovery disk and I managed to get it to come up into recovery but then when I try any of the recovery options I get different versions of the same message: "RicaDeployer.exe application error: Instructions at 0x24C7cc09
references memory at 0x00000018 the memory could not be read." the numbers change depending on which recovery option I choose but the rest of the message is always the same. When I tried to repair files, it says that a partition is missing, and then when I tried another repair option it says the hard drive is locked. Anyone with any ideas of how to get in to repair? I tried booting from a Norton recovery stick I made but it doesn't seem to see anything on USB sticks either.

Solution
I suggest you create an usb boot tool. Then test you HD and memory. Possibly UBCD or Hiren's boot cd. Here is a tool to make the test tools.
