Setting up Surround Sound?

Just picked up an LG TV with all the speakers, DVD player etc.

I've plugged everything in, however I want to know if it's possible to have surround sound all the time when switching between HDMI inputs (Computer, Cable TV).

Currently, I only have it when watching DVDs on the player. I'm sure everything is set up correctly, do I need an AV Receiver with this though?

Any help appreciated :)
