I started with Setup disc XP in drive. It does all its standard setup and then goes to start windows and says it can't find a hard drive on my system.

It is a brand new hard drive... Hitachi 120.

The XP cd's have motherboard and I/O drivers for XP era PCs...
You will have to search the mobo site for "SATA Preinstall driver" sometimes just called chipset or sata drivers, you will recognize them by the very small size usually less then 1MB,those will have to be unpacked and put on a FLOPPY DISK to be read in before the actuall XP installation,it prompts you during the "bios screens"
You can also slipstream them into a new iso and use that, google slipstream XP drivers.
