Sharp LC-26GA5U or Samsung LT-P266W

I plan on using one of these (or another suggestion?) with a MCE PC
(not yet built) to do the PVR thing, watch DVD's, and either OTA or
cable (Time Warner) broadcasts. I am not sure yet if being able to
record HD broadcasts is important to me but recording SD definatly is.

From what I can tell, the Samsung has a lesser screen res (1280x768 vs
the Sharps' 1366x768) but is able to do 1080i while the Sharp cannot.
Is this relevent?

Also, the Samsung has HDCP but the Sharp does not (???). Does this
matter when it comes to recording from OTA? From cable?

One thing for sure; the Sharp has great picture quality. How do the
two compare picture wise?

I'm just looking for the most bang for the buck in this whole mess.
Sorry if this post seems incoherent, ignorant, lame, OT or whatever,
but I am doing my best. :)

TIA !!!

I have a Sharp LC-26GA5U and I can tell you that this Sharp model *can*
do 1080i. I use an SA3250HD (through Comcast) and it works well. HD
broadcasts are very, very nice.

Not sure about OTA since I've never used it, but the Sharp works with
HDCP either through DVI or HDMI. I have my STB connected from DVI to
HDMI (TV input) and it works perfect. Also, I have my PC connected from
SGVA to DVI (TV input) and it also works well, too.

I can tell you this much...when connected through DVI (cablebox) to HDMI
(TV in), the Sharp model looks absolutely immaculate. It's true HDTV.
Everyone who has seen my TV has commented how awesome my TV looks
(picture-wise) when they see Discovery HD, InHD, and InHD2's broadcasts,
and some even think that they've never seen a TV that looks *that* good
before. :)

I will say this again. Component video connection through this TV looks
average. DVI through HDMI is the only way to connect it to get the "wow
factor".

Thanks Naz. I just bought the Sharp from Amazon. $200 rebate. Seemed
like the right thing to do.. My 13 year old JVC was starting to turn
blue around the edges.

Tell me, isn't the SA3250HD a DVR? If so, what do you use your
computer for? Does it do recording as well?

No, I don't think that the SA3250HD is a DVR. If it is, I'm not aware
of it.

I use my laptop to play PC games on my LCD TV. I haven't had the
chance, nor the time to investigate on how I will use it as a DVR,
though I would like to know if/how I can do that.

Hmmm...time to do some research :)
