Hi,

Was it just the shift key that has the problem and others key does work fine right? Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- First do try pressing the shift key using the Onscreen keyboard.
- Search for osk and once Onscreen keyboard is open press both shift key and see if it will still type a character or not.
- If the same problem will persist do check if your keyboard language is set correctly.

- If the USB keyboard will work normal I would suggest running System Restore first and bring it back to an earlier date or time when you know that the keyboard was working normally.
- Here's how to run System Restore: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-PH/windows-8/restore-refresh-reset-pc
- If all these will not work, last option would be to reinstall Windows.
