I've just got a nikon d3400 my wife bought a sigma 70-300 f4-5.6 dg macro to go with it but I can't get it to passed 200 mm .when i put it on macro and manual focus it will extend to 300mm but no matter what I try it will not focus!!! Any remedies would be welcome. Thanks

I think you should read the manual first. That lens has minimum focus distance 150*(95) cm / 59.1*(37.4) in. That means you need to stay away that distance, otherwise it will not focus.

Also I read one review, they said the "Macro use is restricted to 200-300mm." https://www.imaging-resource.com/lenses/sigma/70-300mm-f4-5.6-dg-macro-apo/review/
