Silent laptop for programming (no gaming)

Thought i could survive college with just my desktop but apparently not.
currently using an old laptop that my sister used (HP dv6-3230us).
it runs fine for browsing, video, and programming purposes but the fans are loud very noisy.
I know Mac are very quiet, but I would like to know some PC options before I consider Mac since they tend to be quite pricey.


1. Budget? dont have one in mind right now. would like recommendation from all price range.

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering? bigger the better

3. What screen resolution do you want? doesnt matter

5. How much battery life do you need? at least 5 ~ 6 hrs under normal use

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)? no need

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? programming, browsing, video

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need? 128gb will be enough

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop? atleast 3 ~ 4 years

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ? no need

13. What country do you live in? USA

Macbook air if you are have no budget problems.

Depends on the type of programs you compile. I would recommend the asus n series laptop as it should be more than enough for you. You can also go with the x series if they are too heavy

I would go with an Ultrabook (best battery life). The bigger the screen the lower the battry life.
