Sony installation software of Handycam HDD

Sony support has denied that there is any problem with their installation software. I had great success with the camera using XP but since I have not been able to successfully install it. My latest disaster was to try to install in in my PC which USED TO run on Windows 8.1. The PC refused to restart - I eventually brought the PC to a technician who had to reinstall Windows - He reverted to Windows 7 Ultimate and guess what - the PC wouldn't restart... Anyone with a similar problem?

If the tech reverted it to Windows 7 Ultimate, and you didn't install the camera software...the problem isn't the camera software.
And you can't get Win 7 Ultimate for free. Did you pay for that during his fix?
