Because you are paying for a service. I actually like the idea because for people like myself in a country where it seems iTunes is our only choice, it gives me an option. Hopefully it means anyone in my family can use the service of course. I would much rather pay a REASONABLE fee for a service like this and have choice, than pay for overpriced boxed versions etc.
But i do agree that was a hard read to tell me that it will cost me $60 a year, and it's in my country!
