"We’ve concentrated most of our efforts on our download service, both rentals and downloads of movies and TV shows," said Kohler. "Our efforts will continue to be there, because our customers want to own the content."

*LAUGHTER* Downloading media on the PS3 costs as much as buying it physically and the download times are awful. Not to mention the only titles available are the ones Sony owns.

lol "But many of the participants said, "but I could watch that on my laptop, too.""

Yeah why would you want to watch it on your tv on the 360 you already own for free on a 50" screen when you could roast your lap for 2 hours and watch it on a 14" screen... Jeeze, Sony needs some new people making their statements for them. What a crock.

"Those that knew wanted to know the difference between Netflix streaming on the PC versus the Xbox 360. They discovered that it’s obviously the same, and those people wanted to know what the "specialness" of that would be. The moderator mentioned that you could watch [the Netflix streams] in your living room. But many of the participants said, "but I could watch that on my laptop, too.""

Sure, no difference if either the TV in your living room is the same size as your laptop screen or you already have your laptop connected to your home theater. By default, the your console of choice is probably already hooked up to the equipment in your home best suited to watching movies. Nice spin, but a little flimsy if you ask me.

Lol, it's always funny to hear from xbox fans. Remember the company line that DLC movies was the way of the future and would cause bluray a quick death? Now that Sony is pushing downloadable movies to "own", xbox fans suddenly see the limits of this medium. You are correct, it takes some time to download a feature length fil between 4-8gb, and that's just for standard def. As far as Netflix goes, I promise that if you poll those you know, very few have used it. If you already had a Netflix account then it may be of interest to you.

You have obviously either do not own a PS3 or have never visited the PS Video Store. Warner Bros., Paramount, Fox, Universal, Disney, are just some of the few movie studios that offer content. As for TV shows, NBC, FOX, History Channel, and Discovery are just some of the providers.

Over 1200 downloads available on the PSN video store.

While I can easily see a wide audiance of xbox users that wouldn't use the Netflix service. I do think that it has merit to anyone who doesn't have a HTPC. For anyone considering the mail movie rental service and has a 360 netflix would be favorable.

I decided to try it and I must say I am impressed. quality isn't the best but its not really bad. Now I have access to tons of old movies and a bunch of other stuff in a pretty easy to use system. I never did like it on my computer when I tried it out a year ago. For 9 bucks a month its pretty easy to average a new released movie a week plus all these older titles on my xbox and I have already watch at least 5 movies this month. For another dollar the dvds could be blu-rays. Not for everyone but not a bad deal.

hmm...
well, the online netflix i have seen is pretty crappy in terms of movie selection. is there now a more vast array of movies online besides all those crappy ones? is it available only on the x-box or online through web-browsers as well?
because if it is an online service, what's to stop ps3 users from accessing it through the ps3 web-browser?
and how come not one article on the matter covers these details?

I have tried to use Hulu through the PS3. 420p wont display either in regular or full screen mode, and the content is very choppy compared to my htpc. Some improvements have been made with the PS3 browser, but it is still far from any PC based browser (even IE.) when it comes to displaying content via the internet.

Kohler also touched on PS2 games for the PS3 as well as any XrossMediaBar (XMB) changes in the future. For who would jump at the chance to download their favorite PS2 game Virtual Console style may have some waiting to do. "We’re absolutely interested," said Kohler, "but there are some technical hurdles there that we have to overcome first. Nothing’s imminent on that, but it’s something we are interested in." One thing to remember is that while the PS2 is a generation old, it used DVDs. So, because many developers use as much space as possible when considering available media, PS2 games are inherently larger than any title that one would find on any older Nintendo console.

That could all be remedied by allowing people to use their physical media. They could do something similar to what Microsoft did with the 360 by creating profiles for different games. I don't want to have to buy a game that I own again just to play it on another console.

I have both systems and I have tried the Hulu stuff on the PS3 a few months ago. Now the new updates might have fixed it. But I have Netflix on my 360 and I personally know about 50 other people that do as well and we all use it on a regular basis. The quality is easily as good as cable TV if not better. As for owning the content, I really don't care since the movies and shows can stay in my que as long as I want and I can rewatch anything anytime without the need to find the movie or worry about my kids damaging the discs. I agree the selection could be better, but I think Netflix has a great start and is always adding new material and the service is fantastic in my opinion. Also I have 125 items in my que currently, with about 30 of them in HD.
Before the NXE I didn't see why people used Netflix over Block Buster Online but now I wouldn't go back.

I use PlayOn for Hulu with both my Xbox 360 and PS3 and it works great on both consoles. I'd say I prefer the PS3 though because it scrolls through longer title names, allowing you to see the episode description and the amount of views it has.
