Sony Vegas wont render videos

when ever i want to render a video on sony vegas i just get a greyed out render button and i cant use it. no notifications or anything. my computer doesnt crash i just cant render.

When you choose a render template are you selecting an option by clicking the arrow next to one of the choices and then selecting an option under the render template?
