While I don't think it's a necessity; I think it's worth it for certain games. I think it's better than the ps2 controller in that it's a proprietary wireless controller and that it has a USB port for a plug. While I'm sure this is industry standard; it is still a evolutionary step of the Dual Shock 1 and 2.
