So.. will it have an active OLED as the ones we're expecting to show up in TV's or passive OLED as the ones that have been used for ages in mobile phones?

The original Walkman was a disruptive technology. It was cheaper, and smaller, but not as good as a full sized radio. But at the time, it was either that, or nothing, and thus it caught on like wildfire.

This device, is an imitation to the iPhone, neither cheaper or significant;y better. And thus, it will never be a successful competitor.

Sony! You know better.

Apparently they don't know better. They've been releasing duds for far too long now and they lost all credibility in the MP3 department (from what I am concerned).

It doesn't need to be "significantly better" to be a successful competitor....

Seeing that the device is sony,I speculate that no third party applications will be made for it.
At least not legally.
There will probably be some homebrew OS guys trying to create an alternative OS for it.

If it browses on the net, probably the architecture and OS will be very similar to the PSP's (with a slight change of layout).

An mp3 player that can surf the net? Why not add cel phone capabilities and go after the iPhone, given its price?

I thought the trend was to all-in-one devices.

It's not getting caught with your pants down when you it intentionally. Caught with pants down, the idea is that the pants are pulled up immediately. Considering their expected date (now May 31st) was not pulled , it doesn't look like the pants were down. It is normal for companies to announce expected dates of release, especially if they want to facilitate pre-ordering.
