Sound Bar connect to a TV

I have a Samsung SmartTv. I have tried to hook up my Phillips sound bar to the TV audio out system, but that does not work. right now I have it hooked up to the cable box audio out and the bar work fine. I wondering how I can get it to my TV. Any suggestions???
